Obituary for Alberta Juanita Buskey (Sistrunk)

Mrs. Alberta Buskey, age 88, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday morning, December 02, 2022, at her residence.

She was born October 13, 1934, in Orangeburg, SC., a daughter of the late Ezekiel and Rosa Sistrunk.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herbert L. Buskey; two brothers, James Sistrunk and Monroe Sistrunk; two sisters, Beulah Sistrunk and Rose Sistrunk Bradley. Alberta attended and graduated from Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, SC. After graduating from high school, she briefly relocated to New York City before moving to Fayetteville, NC, in 1954, where she married Herbert L. Buskey, the love of her life. Four children were born of this union. She was an active member of the church, starting with Butler Chapel AME Church, as a child and ending as a devoted and faithful member of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Her life revolved around family, church, friends, and community.

Initiating Family reunions, family gatherings, and trips, especially with the “Golden Girls” (trips with her sisters and sisters-in-law). Her love of family was known and felt by her numerous relatives. She loved cooking, especially for family and
friends, serving not only good food but laughter and comfort. She was an active church member contributing to Lewis Chapel Floral Ministry, United Order of Tents (Echo Elliott 780), and Sisters of Ruth. She founded the tradition of honoring Veterans by celebrating their service while honoring the people who built and sustained the church. She was a helping hand for Vacation Bible School, creating art activities that inspired kids into Christian fellowship. She also received the Lorraine C. McLeod Service Award for community service and outreach. Alberta was a driving force in the neighborhood as an active member of the Foxfire Association. She participated in The Foxfire Fish Fry, the neighborhood welcoming committee, and neighborhood Holiday decoration and beautification. She was a member of the NCO Wives Club, an avid gardener, a sociable bowler, and a Dallas Cowboy fan. She strongly supported Relay for Life, having survived two bouts
of breast cancer. She also loved word searches, flowers, and dancing. Alberta never met a stranger. She is survived by two daughters, Debora D. Buskey; Shelia Buskey Allen: Two sons, Herbert W. Buskey (Vanessa) and Stanley W. Buskey; three grandchildren, Brandon J. Buskey (Hannah), William “Alexz” Buskey and Samantha N. Buskey; two great-grandchildren, Ellison M. Buskey, Gabriel B. Buskey; one brother, Ezekiel Sistrunk Jr. (Danielle); two sisters, Geraldine
Buskey Cannon (Samuel), Ruby Sistrunk Bowles: three sisters-in- law, Mary Freeney (Howard), Thelma Davis, Marian Sullins (Robert); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
